چکیده

The chemical evolution of the Universe is governed by the chemical yields from stars, which in turn is determined primarily by the initial stellar mass. Even stars as low as 0.9M⊙ can, at low metallicity, contribute to the chemical evolution of elements. Stars less massive than about 10M⊙ experience recurrent mixing events that can significantly change the surface composition of the envelope, with observed enrichments in carbon, nitrogen, fluorine, and heavy elements synthesized by the slow neutron capture process (the s-process). Low and intermediate mass stars release their nucleosynthesis products through stellar outflows or winds, in contrast to massive stars that explode as core-collapse supernovae. Here we review the stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis for single stars up to ∼ 10M⊙ from the main sequence through to the tip of the asymptotic giant branch (AGB). We include a discussion of the main uncertainties that affect theoretical calculations and review the latest observational data, which are used to constrain uncertain details of the stellar models. We finish with a review of the stellar yields available for stars less massive than about 10M⊙ and discuss efforts by various groups to address these issues and provide homogeneous yields for low and intermediate-mass stars covering a broad range of metallicities.

Nova nucleosynthesis and Galactic evolution of the CNO isotopes

In this paper we study the role played both by novae and single stars in enriching the interstellar medium of the Galaxy with CNO group nuclei, in the framework of a detailed successful model for the chemical evolution of both the Galactic halo and disc. First, we consider only the nucleosynthesis from single low-mass, intermediate-mass and massive stars. In particular, the nucleosynthesis pres...

Evolution and Yields of Extremely Metal Poor Intermediate Mass Stars

Intermediate mass stellar evolution tracks from the main sequence to the tip of the AGB for five initial masses (2 to 6M⊙) and metallicity Z=0.0001 have been computed. The detailed 1D structure and evolution models include exponential overshooting, mass loss and a detailed nucleosynthesis network with updated nuclear reaction rates. The network includes a two-particle heavy neutron sink for app...

Stellar nucleosynthesis is the corner-stone of many astrophysical problems. Its understanding, which can be tested by countless observations, leads to insights into the stellar structure and evolution, and provides crucial clues to the physics of the galaxies and of the universe. Precise answers can be given to the questions “When, where and how the chemical elements are synthesized in stars?”,...

CNO elements

Using the standard infall model of Galactic chemical evolution, we explore the origin of carbon and calculate the abundance evolution of CNO elements for 8 different models of stellar nucleosynthesis yields. The results show that, in the early stage of the Galaxy, massive stars are the main producer of carbon, and that as our Galaxy evolves to the late stage, the longer lived intermediate-and l...

Nucleosynthesis of Elements in Low to Intermediate Mass Stars through the Agb Phase I Introduction Ii Basic Stellar Evolution

We present a review of the main phases of stellar evolution with particular emphasis on the nucleosynthesis and mixing mechanisms in low-and intermediate-mass stars. In addition to explicit studies of the eeects of the rst, second and third dredge-up, we also discuss cool bottom processing and hot bottom burning. In recent years a wealth of new abundance data has been obtained, both from stella...
